V-Ray 5 for Maya - update 1 out now!

V-Ray 5, update 1 is Autodesk Maya 2022 compatible and adds new features and improvements to streamline users’ workflow and make collaboration faster and more efficient. With initial support for Pixar’s USD format, artists can now easily transfer data between DCC tools without extra optimizations. Browse the newly added V-Ray Material Library, and make pixel-perfect adjustments to their images without re-rendering with support for masking in the VFB. And lots more.

Key features in V-Ray 5 for Maya, update 1

Initial support for Pixar’s USD format. Work natively with USD to exchange information between DCC tools. Load and edit large amounts of data in no time. Faster, and more efficient collaboration between 3D artists in all industries.

V-Ray Material Library:

Browse from a library of over 500 render-ready textured materials including metals, glass, wood, and more.

Pixel-perfect masks in the V-Ray Frame Buffer

Make pixel-perfect adjustments to your scene without re-rendering. Use any of V-Ray’s masking render elements—Cryptomatte, MultiMatte, and Object/ Render/ Material IDs—to select and fine-tune parts of your render.

Cryptomatte in progressive rendering

The Cryptomatte render element is now supported with progressive rendering.

VRayEnvironmentFog color transparency

Chaos have  added colored transparency to VRayEnvironmentFog, making specific setups, like underwater shots, easier and more realistic to create, and faster to render.

Opacity Cutout Conversion

Convert opacitymapped objects to actual geometry for faster rendering. This new feature will save time when rendering broad-leaved trees or other vegetation.

New V-Ray Material translucency

Create true translucent materials with the updated V-Ray Material. Now with built-in volumetric random walk subsurface scattering, it’s easier than ever to render realistic skin, plastic, wax, and more.

GPU Light Cache and improved Out-of-core.

The V-Ray Light Cache is now calculated on the GPU for faster render starts. Out of core now supports all V-Ray GPU features allowing any scene to exceed GPU memory for geometry.

Progressive caustics

Achieve real-world reflections and refractions with V-Ray’s new progressively calculated caustics. Easier to set up, without the need for pre-calculated photon maps.

Intel® Open Image Denoise

New CPU-based AI denoiser engine, excellent for interactive rendering. Intel® Open Image Denoise cleans up noise fast and runs on any machine.

Additive Dome Lights

Combine HDRI sources for fast, creative lighting setups and accurate Light Mix.

Viewport improvements

VRayMtl coat and sheen layers are now in the viewport. Initial viewport implementation of VRayLayeredTex.

Used across a number of industries including animation, CGI, content creation, interior design, automotive, fashion, architecture, and product design, V-Ray for Maya is built to handle your biggest and most-challenging projects.

V-Ray 5 for Maya is the complete 3D rendering software for animation and visual effects. Composite renders, incorporate Light Path Expressions and interactively relight your scene in the new V-Ray Frame Buffer. Randomize your textures for seamless tiling and get a massive speed boost with the all-new V-Ray Proxy node.

V-Ray 5 helps you save time and make your renders look even better — both on the CPU or GPU

V-Ray 5 for Maya Key Features

Light Mix

Now, from a single render, you can create dozens of lighting scenarios. Change the color and intensity of lights in real-time without having to render again. When you have the look you want, you can save your light mix recipe, send the layers to comp, and update the lights in the scene. Learn more about the Light Mix.

New Compositor

The new and improved V-Ray frame buffer adds a compositor to help you fine-tune and finish renders. Combine render layers, set blending modes, and adjust colors without going to a separate app.

New V-Ray Proxy Workflow.

Improve viewport and render speed with the new VRay Proxy node - а simplified single geometry node structure with easy-to-use, rule-based material and visibility assignments.

ACESCG Color Space

Select industry-standard ACEScg for rendering with automatic color space adjustment for textures, dispersion, sun & sky, and light temperature colors.

Texture Randomization

Add variety to your scene with the new VRayUVWRandomizer map and enhanced VRayMultiSubTex controls.

Stochastic Texture Tiling

Automatically remove texture tiling artifacts with the new Stochastic tiling option on the VRayUVWRandomizer.

New Sun And Sky Model

Reproduce the subtleties of twilight when the sun is below the horizon with the new Sun and Sky model.

New Carpaint Meterial

A new, even more realistic car paint material with enhanced flakes implementation.

Coat Layer

Add reflective coatings directly in the updated V-Ray Material, saving you both material creation and rendering time vs. using Blend material.

Light Path Expressions

For more control in compositing, construct your own render passes with Light Path Expressions. Create custom expressions or use the timesaving presets to specify the light contributions you want to output.

Enhanced GPU Rendering

Power up your renders with all-new GPU features, including 2D displacement, support for OSL textures, memory tracking and initial out-of-core implementation to handle your largest scenes.

Material Presets.

Save time creating common materials with presets for aluminum, chrome, glass and more. Presets for most used hair colors have also been added.

Sheen Layer.

Create soft microfiber fabrics like velvet, satin and silk with the new Sheen options in the updated V-Ray Material.

Extended V-Ray Dirt

Weathered streaks and dirt in crevices are easy with the enhanced V-Ray Dirt, which now employs both ambient and inner occlusion.

Blue-Noise Sampling

Achieve better noise distribution with fewer samples.
