On Tuesday night, in a dimly lit room at Cafe 1001, we gave away a Wacom Cintiq 16”.
Escape Technology have been huge fans of the See No Evil events for several years now, and we’re proud to sponsor them whenever we can. For those that don’t know, See No Evil was started in 2016 by Thiago Maia and James Wignall. It’s an event/meet up for animators, designers, and directors to show and discuss their work, and also to help create a better sense of community.
The event was held in an atmospheric, upstairs room - all low lighting, spindly chairs, and old chesterfields. Artist Ben Newman was the guest speaker. He talked to us about how he got started, his influences (American and Japanese mid-century space books and designs, geometric shapes, tribal masks, and bold colours), which lead to his baby - well - his fur baby. His space fur baby: Professor Astro Cat - a colourful cat astronaut that explores the final frontier. Ben spoke to us about Astro Cat’s progression from his books about space, to books exploring the deep sea (which have been translated in several languages) to adding more characters, to creating an app.

It was an interesting and colourful presentation, and Ben himself was very funny. Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for - the raffle! See No Evil’s prizes included a tee, a cap, and a subscription to Stash. We provided a Wacom Cintiq 16” to give away - the lucky winner was @instantjones and he was one happy chappy.
A happy @Instantjones with his brand new Wacom Cintiq 16"
An enjoyable evening was had by all - including the two canine audience members! If you missed out this time, make sure you come along to the next (it’s free, for goodness’ sake). Sign up to our newsletter to hear about all upcoming events. See you there!
