Free RenderMan

Free RenderMan

It's been a year since we first heard Pixar were joining the non-commercial heavens to release a free version of their legendary RenderMan software. And finally it's here and ready for download.

At last year’s RenderMan user group meeting (UGM) in London, Pixar announced with great zest that they would be releasing RenderMan for free for non-commercial users. Since then they've been working furiously to develop an infrastructure that could handle the predicted demand of 250+ simultaneous downloads per second. So don't worry about getting into a queue, start downloading now.

Completely unrestricted and available for research, education, or even mere tinkering you’ll now be able to download Renderman and export watermark-free files to your heart’s content. It’s available directly from Pixar’s website and, when you decide you’re in love with it, Escape Technology can set you up with as many commercial licences as you need.

If you’re a new adopter of the industry-beating renderer and would like to find out more then come along to Pixar’s Art and Science Fair on Tuesday 31 March right here in London at BAFTA 195 Piccadilly. There are going to be talks from RenderMan experts and you'll even get to watch Pixar’s short, Lava. Hell, last year the popcorn alone was worth the visit.

Alternatively you can give one of our software experts a call and find out everything you need to know about RenderMan.
